Thank you for inviting me to your kick-off celebration. Mike has asked me to say a few words about the YMCA and our membership.

My son and I love the opportunity to use the facilities. I am involved with water classes and yogalates while my son loves wrestling and the ability to keep fit in the fitness center.

For several years I have been disabled do to two car accidents, arthritis, gout, diabetes, IBS and more. When I first started, I could barely walk three blocks at a time.

But this opportunity has allowed me the freedom to individualize my wellness program under the supervision of my Doctors Graham and Sparks. Starting with the arthritis water class, Jointly Speaking, I slowly built up over 1 ½ years to two and a half hours a day of exercise. Today, I can even walk 1 ½ miles.

Having a mother that is disabled is not easy for a son to deal with. There are times when I cannot get out of bed to make a meal, wash clothes or put him to bed.

It is with thankfulness that my son, Matt, has had a safe, caring place where he can have fun and grow. He has been involved in several summer camp weeks. Without help, he would have missed out on the time of his life where he became part of a Christian community.

I am not comfortable talking in front of crowds, but I want you to know how thankful I am for your efforts in the Partners With Youth program.

It is heroes like you that have made good possibilities into new realities that build better lives.

Thank You.
