Rec Plex Report

Entering its second year of operation, the YMCA RecPlex continues to run on full throttle. The tennis community continues to enjoy open tennis play along with several tournaments and clinics which are held on a regular basis.

In addition, the gymnastics team continues to receive the benefits of the larger space including a wonderful spring floor provided by the booster group. Coaches and team members really enjoy their home meets and showing off the “new” home of the Gym team.

New programs are also underway during the winter at the RecPlex. Adult dodge ball has been well received by the community. This fun way to exercise is played on Thursday night with lots of fellowship time following the "heated" contests.

Indoor golf with golf pro Jim Zelinski begins in January. For beginners, as well as "pro" golfers, this will be a wonderful way to keep your sweet swing.

Baton recently started with two students. Our new instructor hopes to build upon those two and encourages young people to dream of being the golden girl at Purdue!

Soccer with the Columbus Crew will be part of the December happenings at the Locust Street facility. The Y hopes to begin an indoor 5th and 6th grade league in January.

For more information about these programs and rental opportunities, contact Jacquie Moku, RecPlex Director, at 277-7373.

Let's Get Fit

Beginning December 1st and running through January 19th, you can join the YMCA for just $50. The 50 days to join for $50 promotion will feature a special

Open House on Sunday,
January 9th from 1-3 pm.

Staff and volunteers will offer a day of celebration as we welcome all the new members and say a special thank you to the current members who support the Y.

In addition to open use of the facilities, open gym, and open swim, the Y will have several fun prizes to be given away each hour. The prizes and the day will feature different ways to get "fit".

Staff will be talking to members about the upcoming programs which key on different levels of fitness. We will have everything from beginners to fitness warriors.

WLOH will be broadcasting live from the Rotunda of the YMCA. Please mark your calendars for a fun day at the Y on Sunday, January 9th.

Keys to Fitness Success

As we approach 2011, the staff of your YMCA wants you to be healthier and happier in the coming year. For many, it is trying to overcome the "battle of the bulge". Starting on January 8th (everyone must be registered by January 7th) the Great Weight Race will run for 12 weeks.

We will have teams of four participating as a group. You may select your own team or we will match you up. A trainer will be assigned to each group. Your group will meet once a week with a trainer.

The Y has partnered with Fairfield Medical Center and the Dietary Department and will offer a nutrition component for those wanting additional help. All classes for nutrition will meet at the YMCA.

The Y will recognize one female and one male overall winner. We will also have one team/trainer winner. All winners are determined based on the total percentage of weight loss-not pounds lost.

However, everyone is a winner since each participant will be taking steps to change their lives forever! Good luck and let the fun and fitness begin!!!
